Live Brief: Corporate Identity Project - 2024

Client: Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner Cambridgeshire & Peterborough

Within this live brief project, I was asked to produce a new corporate identity concept for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner team in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner team are an organisation who are responsible for many duties within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough including: publishing national crime and policing measures, representing the voice of the public in policing, as well as commissioning support services for victims and witnesses of crime. The client wanted me to design an approachable and accessible logo, which represents community and looks less political. This was because they want to be seen as trustworthy by the public.

Deliverables: logo, brand colour palette, business card design, letterhead design, roll-up banner, social media posts, and a website re-skin for desktop and mobile.

Stage 1: Client Research

Before starting a project, I first make sure to research the client before creating any work, as it is very important to understand who the client is, and what their goals are. Furthermore, this knowledge allows me to tailor my designs to the client, leading to more effective and engaging solutions.

Stage 2: Creative Research

Next, I make sure to gather research on the work of different designers to help inspire me, and give me ideas that I can use in my own work. In this particular project, I was inspired by the water featured in the brand identity for Scarborough Council.

Stage 3: Initial Designs - Development

After receiving feedback on my refined sketches, I then further develop my ideas digitally. I always work in black and white before adding colour to my designs, so that I can focus on making better layout choices for the shapes and form of the design.

Stage 4: Final Colour Palette & Designs

After I have chosen a final design for the project, I experiment with different colours until I find an exciting combination. This is my favourite part of the design process!

Stage 5: Mockups

Finally, I present the final designs for the project, which usually involves me creating mockups for the client. This is so that we can both see what the finished designs would look like in a real life situation.
